UPS VS EPS
UPS is short for “uninterruptible power supply;” while EPS is short for “Emergency Power Supply,” which can satisfy special needs of the fire-fighting industry.
When the electric power supply is normal, the reserve UPS is directly provided by the electric power supply to the load. However, when the electric power supply exceeds its working range or there is a blackout, UPS will be replaced by battery inversion power supply via switch conversion. Characteristics of the reserve UPS include a simple structure, a small volume and a low cost, but a narrow input voltage scope, poor stability and precision of the output voltage, existence of switching period, and the output waveform as the square wave.
When the electric power is normal, the online interactive UPS directly have the electric power supply the power for the load. When the electric power is slightly higher or lower, the electric power is output after stabilization of the UPS internal voltage stabilization circuit. When the electric power is abnormal, the inverter has its energy provided by the battery, and the inverter will be in a constant working status, which cannot ensure uninterrupted output. Characteristics of the online interactive UPS include a broad input voltage scope, a small noise and volume, and existence of switching period as well.
When the electric power is normal, the online UPS has the electric power directly provide the DC voltage for the inverter, and the inverter directly provides AC for the load. When the electric power is abnormal, the inverter will have the battery providing the power. The inverter is at a working state, which cannot ensure uninterrupted output. Characteristics of the online UPS include a broad input voltage scope, no switching period, and a high stabilization and stabilization of output voltage. It is particularly suitable to occasions with a high requirement of the electric current, but the cost is generally high.
The UPS is capable of voltage stabilization and filtering. Some of them can even change to the electric power bypass for power supply when in fault or overloaded.
The voltage output of the reserve UPS fluctuates seriously. When the voltage ranges from 170V to 260V, the high-speed relay can realize switch between the electric power and the accumulator in less than 10 ms of switching time. The online UPS always adopts the inverter circuit for work, its voltage stability is high, generally falling within the scope of 220V ±5%. It has no switching period with the accumulator. When switched with the electric power bypass, it adopts the static switch, and the switching time can reach the microsecond.
The UPS is characterized by a high output precision, fast switching, and a high manufacturing cost, which is around twice as much as that of EPS. At ordinary times, energy consumption of the online UPS is high, and the service life of its engine is short, usually ranging from eight years to ten years.
The EPS is a little similar to the reserve UPS, whose inverter does not work at ordinary times. When the electric power is disconnected, the accumulator is adopted. Generally, the constant current and voltage processing is not conducted of the power source, the contactor switch is usually employed and the switching period ranges from 0.1s to 0.25s. Advantages of the EPS include a simple structure, a low manufacturing cost, a small energy consumption, no noises, and a long service life of the main engine. All these characteristics make EPS suitable for the inductive, capacitive and comprehensive load. If necessary, the EPS can realize the frequency-variable soft launch.
