8 Functions of UPS
Power-off protection: when the power supply provided by power grid is powered off, UPS immediately converts the DC power stored in its battery into AC power to supply the load, so as to avoid inconvenience and loss caused by power failure.
Voltage stabilization: Voltage of commercial power supply is easily affected by distance and quality of power transmission lines. User voltage near the substation is higher while the user voltage far from the substation is lower. Excessive or low voltage will affect the service quality and service life of user’s instruments and equipment, seriously, it will even damage the device and cause serious losses to user. Application of UPS system can provide stable voltage power supply for user equipment, so as to ensure the normal operation of equipment and prolong service life.
Surge protection: Generally, UPS power supply system is designed with point discharge to absorb surge, so as to avoid surge from affecting the service efficiency and service life of device.
High and low voltage protection: When the voltage of power grid changes frequently, the voltage regulator in UPS keeps the voltage in the safe range, thus ensuring the normal operation of the equipment. When the high and low voltage exceeds the usable range, UPS will start battery power supply to ensure the continuous operation of equipment.
Harmonic distortion protection: When the power is transmitted to the user through transmission and distribution lines, the voltage waveform distorts and fundamental current changes, as a result, harmonic is generated. Harmonic will affect the use of equipment, while UPS power supply can provide stable and high-quality power supply for equipment, thus effectively improving the operation efficiency and service life of equipment.
Frequency stabilization: Frequency refers to the change period of commercial power supply per second, 50Hz means 50 cycles per second. Speed change of power supply motor caused by abrupt change of user power consumption will lead to unstable frequency of power supply, while the power converted by UPS would provide stable frequency to ensure the normal operation of instruments.
Instantaneous protection: Voltage surge and sag or instantaneous pressure drop occurs occasionally, which may affect the accuracy of devices. Seriously, it will damage precision device and cause losses to users. UPS can provide stable voltage to protect equipment.
Restrain transverse-mode noise and common-mode noise: Transverse-mode noise occurs between the fire line and the neutral line, while the common-mode noise occurs between the fire line, neutral line and earth line. Hidden problems danger the instruments and devices all the time, and cause losses to users. UPS safeguards the instruments and data, ensures the normal operation of device and extends the service life.
